Passo Sella links Canazei in Val di Fassa with Selva di Val Gardena, running beneath the sheer walls of the Sella massif and the Sassolungo. The pass road dates from the 1850s. The southern climb from Canazei is the hardest of the four passes on the Sellaronda loop: about 11 km at a steady 7 percent on well-spaced hairpins, opening to views of the Sella towers near the top. It has twice served as the Cima Coppi, the highest point of the Giro d'Italia.
