The Mangart road is the highest paved road in Slovenia, ending at about 2055 m just below the Mangart Saddle on the Slovenia-Italy border. The cycling climb begins where the toll road (Cesta na Mangart, route 902) branches off the Predel road just below Strmec na Predelu, at roughly 1084 m. From there it climbs about 10.9 km at an average of 9 percent, with the steepest 100 m stretch around 18.8 percent. The road has multiple hairpins and several unlit tunnels, so lights are needed; it carries a small toll and was built in the late 1930s.
