One of the steepest sustained paved climbs in the Alps, and almost unknown. From Bobbio Pellice at the head of the Val Pellice — the Waldensian valleys of the Piedmontese Cottian Alps — a narrow ribbon of brand-new asphalt climbs to the Grange del Pis and the Rifugio Barbara Lowrie at ~1,760 m: 9.5 km at 11%, with hairpins pitching past 20%, almost all of it through dense forest. No race has touched it and few cyclists know it; it earns its place on raw gradient alone, in the company of the Mortirolo and the Zoncolan.
