The Cesana Torinese side is the classic and most-ridden ascent of Sestriere, climbing the SS23 from the valley town to the ski resort that sits on the pass. It first appeared in the Tour de France in 1952, when Fausto Coppi won the stage, and has featured in both the Tour and the Giro d'Italia several times since. The climb runs about 11 km at a steady average near 6%, with the second and third kilometres being the steepest part.
