Les Deux Alpes is a high ski resort in the Isère at about 1660 m, reached from the Romanche valley by the D213, which climbs roughly 10 km at around 7% from the junction near the Barrage du Chambon. It is fixed in Tour de France lore by stage 15 of the 1998 race: in cold rain Marco Pantani attacked on the Col du Galibier, distanced race leader Jan Ullrich, and won at Les Deux Alpes by over six minutes to seize the yellow jersey he carried to overall victory. Santiago Botero won a second summit finish here in 2002.
