The classic western ascent starts at Tresenda, where the SS39 branches off the SS38 dello Stelvio on the valley floor, and climbs to the resort town and pass. Over 13.2 km the road gains about 801 m at a fairly even 6.1% average, with the steepest pitches around 8%.
