The Col de Rousset climbs the southern wall of the Vercors massif from the town of Die, in the Drôme. The ascent from Die runs about 19.5 km at a steady 4.4% average, gaining roughly 840 m and rarely exceeding 5-6%, with hairpins above the village of Chamaloc. The col itself is reached through a 769 m road tunnel bored in 1979, which replaced an older 1866 tunnel that still runs alongside it. The Tour de France crossed the climb in 1984, 1996 and 1998, each time rated Category 2.
