Passo Rolle climbs from Predazzo in the Val di Fiemme up to a broad saddle at the foot of the Pale di San Martino, with the spire of Cimon della Pala dominating the final hairpins. From Predazzo the road climbs hard to Bellamonte, eases through the forest and past the Paneveggio reservoir on a long false-flat, then pitches up again to the col. It is one of the historic Dolomite passes of the Giro d'Italia: it featured in the first Dolomite stage ever raced, in 1937, and has been crossed by the race more than twenty times.
