Piancavallo, above Aviano in the Friulian Prealps, is a Giro d'Italia summit finish of real pedigree — Marco Pantani won here in 1998 on the way to his Giro–Tour double, and it has since decided stages for Mikel Landa (2017), Tao Geoghegan Hart (2020) and again in 2026. From Aviano it is HC: about 14.3 km at 7.9%, with a brutal opening ~6.5 km around 9–10% before the gradient relents toward the ski station.
