From Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne the Col du Mollard climbs the north flank of the Arves massif on the D80, gaining about 1046 m over 15.7 km at an average of 6.6%. The first kilometres out of town are gentle, then the road steepens and turns into a long series of hairpins through forest before opening onto the Albiez plateau near the summit. It has featured in the Tour de France several times, first crossed in 2006 and used again in 2012 and 2015, usually as a stepping stone toward the Col de la Croix de Fer.
