The Col du Glandon (1924 m) rises out of La Chambre on the D927, twinned with the neighbouring Croix de Fer into one of the most demanding combinations in the Alps. The climb saves its violence for the end: the last two kilometres exceed 10 %, with stretches at 12 %. In the Tour since 1947, it has broken more escapes than it has rewarded.
