The Col de la Croix de Fer (2067 m) takes its name from the iron cross planted at its summit. From Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne it is a 29.5 km ascent at 5.5 % — long, irregular, with ramps to 9.5 % — one of the great all-day climbs of the Maurienne. The Tour de France has crossed twenty-one times since 1947, most recently in 2022 with Giulio Ciccone first over.
