The Kitzbüheler Horn is climbed by a private panoramic toll road (the Kitzbüheler Hornstraße / Panoramastraße) that branches off about two kilometres north of Kitzbühel and was built in 1965. From the foot near 800 m it climbs roughly 10 km at an average of about 12% to the summit area just below 2000 m, with no real recovery sections; the first 7.8 km is a narrow two-lane road to the Alpenhaus at 1670 m, after which a paved cycling path continues to near the top. The final ramps reach gradients above 20%, peaking around 22%, which makes it one of Austria's hardest paved climbs. Cyclists are not charged at the toll booth (located around km 2.7), and the road also hosts an annual hill-climb race.
