The Kaunertaler Gletscherstraße is one of Austria's highest paved roads — a tolled high-alpine road in Tirol that climbs about 26 km at 6.4% in 29 hairpins from Feichten im Kaunertal, past the Gepatsch reservoir, to 2,750 m at the Weißsee glacier. It has no Grand Tour pedigree; its pull is the climb itself — the relentless switchbacks, the reservoir, and the run-out onto the glacier, which makes it one of climbfinder's most highly rated ascents in Austria. The glacier ski area at the top opened in 1980, so the road is kept open year-round, but for a road bike it's a summer affair.
