The Col de Joux Plane links the ski towns of Samoëns and Morzine in the Haute-Savoie. From the Samoëns side the road climbs about 11.5 km at an average of roughly 8.6%, rising 988 m with no flat or descent to recover on. The Tour de France has used the pass repeatedly since 1978, classed Category 1 or Hors Catégorie, usually as the final climb before a Morzine finish. A small lake (Lac de Joux Plane) and a restaurant sit near the summit, with views toward Mont Blanc.
