Avoriaz, the cliff-top resort above Morzine reached over the Col de la Joux Verte, is one of the Tour de France's classic summit finishes — 1975, the 1983 and 1994 time trials, Guerini in 1999, Andy Schleck in 2010. From Montriond it is a cat-1 of ~13 km past the Lac de Montriond, on impeccable tarmac.
