The road from Le Châtelard up to the Barrage d'Émosson — a great hydro dam at ~1,965 m below the Mont Blanc massif near the French border — is a Grand Tour summit finish twice over: the Critérium du Dauphiné finished here in 2014 (Westra) and the Tour de France in 2016 (stage 17, Finhaut-Émosson, Zakarin). A steep ~9 km grind on excellent tarmac, with a Mont Blanc panorama and the dam-lake arrival.
