The Hahntennjoch links Imst in the upper Inn valley with Elmen in the Lechtal over a single regional road (L246/L266) that was completed in 1969. The Imst side is the canonical climb: it starts in the Oberstadt with a steep ramp through town, eases through the Teilwiesen district, then climbs the narrow Salvesen valley to the 1894 m pass. The road is closed to vehicles over 14 tonnes and shuts from roughly November to April due to avalanche and rockfall danger. It is popular with cyclists and motorcyclists as a quieter alternative to the Fernpass.
