The Grosse Scheidegg links Grindelwald with Meiringen across the Bernese Alps at 1962 m. The southwest ramp from Grindelwald is the canonical cycling side: it leaves the village immediately and climbs roughly 10 km at about 9.3% with a string of steep hairpins under the north face of the Eiger and the Wetterhorn. The road is closed to general motor traffic and is used only by cyclists, walkers and the PostBus service, which sounds its three-note horn before the tighter bends. Buses run May to October.
