Col du Granier links the Chartreuse valleys at 1134 m, with the road sitting beneath the sheer north face of Mont Granier. The eastern ascent from Chapareillan is the steeper and most testing way up: it leaves the vineyards at the village and climbs through forest, gaining 854 m over 10.5 km at an average of 8.1%. The pass has featured in the Tour de France since 1947, with the 2012 edition crossing it from this eastern side.
