The Col du Coq is the highest road pass in the Chartreuse massif, reached from the Grésivaudan valley by the D30 out of Saint-Nazaire-les-Eymes. The canonical ascent is about 13 km at an average near 8.8%, opening with a long straight ramp above 8% before settling into a regular grind, with the last 2-3 km stiffening again toward the col. Two illuminated tunnels punctuate the middle of the climb, and the road faces the Dent de Crolles for much of the way up.
