The canonical climb to Passo Vezzena ascends from Lochere, a hamlet of Caldonazzo in the Valsugana, via the Strada del Menador. This road, also called the Kaiserjagerstrasse, was cut into sheer rock walls by Austro-Hungarian Kaiserjager troops between 1911 and 1915 as a military supply road. The lower section is steep and tight, with nine hairpins carved into the cliff and gradients frequently around 9-12 percent, before the gradient eases on the upper Vezzena plateau toward the pass. From Lochere the climb runs about 11.4 km and gains roughly 925 m at an average near 8 percent.
