The Col du Sanetsch (2252 m) links Valais with the Bernese Oberland but is a dead end for cars: the paved Route du Sanetsch climbs about 27 km from Pont-de-la-Morge near Sion, through the Morge gorges and the village of Chandolin above Savièse, then crests the pass and drops to the Barrage du Sanetsch (1965) and Lac de Sénin. From there a cable car carries cyclists and walkers down to Gsteig on the Gstaad side, running roughly June to October. Near the top the road threads a lit gallery tunnel. It is a quiet, scenic high climb that has stayed off the major race calendars.
