The Gotthard Pass is a mountain pass in the Alps at 2,106 m connecting northern and southern Switzerland. A new road over the pass was built in 1830, wide enough for single-lane motorized traffic; the older paved (cobbled) route is the Tremola on the southern slope. The pass is crossed by National Road 2, which connects Göschenen with Airolo.
